Hi friends!

As you may or not know, March 21st is the International Day for the Elimination of Racism and Discrimination. This day holds immense significance because it serves as a powerful reminder that creating a truly just and equitable world requires ongoing effort.

This day is about honouring those who fought prejudice, celebrating progress, and recommitting to tearing down systems that discriminate.

We believe that education is a big part of this change. Knowledge is a powerful tool for dismantling prejudice and fostering understanding.

That's why, in the spirit of this important day, we're sharing 6 books we recommend to help us all learn, grow, and become better allies in the fight against racism and discrimination.

1. "How to Be an Antiracist" by Ibram X. Kendi

This award-winning book by Dr. Kendi goes beyond simply condemning racism. It unpacks the different types of racism (individual, interpersonal, institutional) and offers a framework for actively becoming anti-racist.

2. "White Fragility" by Robin DiAngelo

DiAngelo, a sociologist and educator, tackles the concept of "white fragility". This book is a powerful tool for self-reflection and navigating these often-charged conversations.

3. Me and White Supremacy by Layla Saad

This 28-day journey is like a deep dive into your own biases and privilege. With journaling prompts, historical context, and clear explanations, it unpacks terms like anti-blackness and cultural appropriation. It's perfect for those ready to ditch awareness for action and become strong allies in the fight for racial justice.

4. "So You Want to Talk About Race" by Ijeoma Oluo

Oluo uses clear, conversational language to address a range of race-related issues we often hesitate to discuss. From microaggressions to cultural appropriation, this book provides a roadmap for having honest conversations about race in our everyday lives.

5. Five Little Indians by Michelle Good

This powerful novel tells the story of five Indigenous friends ripped from their families and forced into a residential school. The abuse and neglect they suffer are heartbreaking, but their fight to survive and find their place in the world is inspiring.

6. White Women by Regina Jackson & Saira Rao

White Women: Everything You Already Know About Your Own Racism and How to Do Better by Regina Jackson | Goodreads

Tired of tiptoeing around race? "White Women" by Jackson & Rao exposes how "niceness" can hurt the fight against racism. Ditch the guilt, get real, and dismantle white supremacy.

Let's use this International Day to not just eliminate racism and discrimination, but to actively build a more equitable world.

Happy reading!
