Our leather

        LEATHER COLOR

Brave Soles likes to ensure you are getting the product you expect, however, due to photographic lighting sources or differences in device screen settings, we can not guarantee that the colour you will see on your screen will completely reflect the true colour of the product ordered.

Variations in the texture of the leather should not be considered a fault but a character of the natural beauty and uniqueness of the leather as each piece is different. Every piece of leather is different and may accept colour dyes a little differently during the tanning process. This may cause irregularities and differences in the consistency and depth of the colour. Leather will always have natural marking such as dents, scars, scratches, wrinkles or blemishes. These natural markings or irregularities should not be considered as a defect but rather indications of genuine leather.

 

        LEATHER SOURCE

The leather is a natural product from animal hides and therefore will differ between each hide.
All of our leather is ethically sourced meaning the animals were not killed for the leather.

We get our shoe and accessories leather from two different sources:

  1. Our shoe leather is sourced in the Dominican Republic with a local tannery called Bojos Tannery.
    Bojos works hard to be transparent about their process and they are a certified gold member of the Leather Working Group.
    We are confident in their environmental standards and sourcing. You can go check their environment report.
  2. Our accessories leather is sourced from one of two locations: Upcycled aircraft seats and furniture cutoffs from furniture makers and overstock leather from the manufacturing zones of Dominican Republic.

 

        HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR PRODUCT

For long lasting use, protect your shoes from getting wet and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and heat. Leather footwear generally takes about 1-2 weeks of wear before softening. As a natural product, it is subject to wear and tear over time. We suggest buying a waterproof protector that can protect your leather shoes and/or accessories if they get wet in the rain.

Shoe fits

We should talk about fits, how much time it takes for the shoes to be comfy, what are the tricks, that good leather mould the feet, etc....

Leather shoes and sandals are durable and amazing.

A leather shoe is like a great friendship: the more you get to know each other, the more you bond.    

Leather sometimes needs an opportunity to be “broken in”. We recommend that you do this with your new sandals in three steps:

  1. Try them on and get a sense of whether they are the best fit for you. You will be able to tell this when they feel nice and juusst a little snug. This is a sign that the two of you are going to get along just fine.
  2. Once you have done this, wear them indoors for the next hour or two. We recommend doing this with a thin sock for best comfort.
  3. For best fit, we recommend to continue wearing them for a couple more days indoors to confirm that you are, in fact, going to have a long term relationship.

The sizes

Keep in mind that it's good for leather shoes to be a little snug as they do stretch and start molding to your feet within the first 3-5 wears.

If you are in between 2 sizes, we advise that if your foot measurement is halfway between sizes, select the larger size.

We understand that not one foot is the same, we have learned this since we have started our shoe company.

Shipping

Your Brave Soles are made at either our workshop in Santiago or Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.   From there, they are sent to Canada via a large cargo shipment which we can send generally every two weeks. Our shipping team receives the cargo shipment once it is released from customs and sorts it, packs it and ships it to you!

In return, this is why our orders generally take up to 15 business days excluding weekends as our workshops are closed on the weekends.

 

        CANADA

  • We offer flat rate shipping and a tracking number for $12 CAD for orders under $99.
    All orders over $99 CAD qualify for free shipping and will automatically be credited at checkout. (Please note, discount included)

 

        UNITED STATES

  • We offer flat rate shipping and a tracking number for $14 USD for orders under $99.
  • All orders over $99 USD qualify for free shipping to the U.S. and will automatically be credited at checkout. (Please note, discount included)

 

        INTERNATIONAL

  • We offer flat rate shipping and a tracking number for $18 USD for orders under $125.
  • All orders over $125 qualify for free shipping anywhere in the world and will automatically be credited at checkout. (Please note, discount included)
  • Please note: Certain countries may charge duty on the purchase price of the invoice, depending on daily import limits. This cost is the responsibility of the customer.

 

        LOCAL PICK UP
Want to pick up your shoes locally in the Dominican Republic? No problem! At checkout, simply choose your country as Dominican Republic, your province as Puerto Plata, your city as Cabarete and your zip code as 57000

There are no extra charges. As soon as we receive your order, you will contacted by our customer service team and make arrangements for pick up.
You can find us on the main street of Cabarete, North Coast. At Royal Residence.

 

We take our shipping seriously. If you have a tracking number, we will follow your shoes across the ocean and around the world and stay in communication with you regarding the process.

 

        SHIPPING TIME

Please be prepared for the shoes to take up to 15 business days to get to you.

Return, refund and exchange

        • RETURN

All Brave Soles items unaltered and unworn may be returned within 30 business days, from anywhere in the world. To be clear: we count the first day as your order's confirmed delivery date, or from the day you received your return label if the return is a fault on our end.

Therefore, should your order take longer than 15 business days to arrive, we will accept returns from the date you received your order.

If you are sent a return label for your Brave Soles, all you will need to do is drop them at the nearest post office. The cost will be completely covered on our end. The return sticker contains all of the information necessary for it be received back at our warehouse.

Should you be returning the shoes because you ordered the wrong size, or just simply decide you do not want them anymore, although we will provide a refund/exchange, the return cost will be at your expense.  

Brave Soles covers all returns that are a fault on our end, a default in our product or a defective product.

 

        • REFUND

If you are not fully satisfied with your purchase, you may return the merchandise for a refund within 30 days of the confirmed day of delivery.
The shoes must be unworn and in their original packaging, even if they are defective.

Once your return is received and inspected, we will send you an email to notify you that we have received your return. We will notify you of the approval or rejection of your refund. If you are approved, then your refund will be processed, and a credit will automatically be applied to your credit card or original method of payment, within a reasonable amount of days.

All items from the sale collection are final.

        • EXCHANGE

Exchanges fall under a similar system as returns. Unless we have made an error in shipping the wrong item, size, colour or the item is defective, the customer is responsible for the cost of shipping the item back to us. Once your return is received and inspected, we will send you an email to notify you that we have received your return and we will provide a tracking number for the shipping of the new item.

Brave Soles will, of course, accept returns of its products but we are in favour of our customers’ making the right product choice in the first place.        

The return process involves a long procedure that diminishes our principal goal: to take care of the planet.

Re-packing and Re-delivering another product (more gas emissions and possible packaging supplies) are only two of the negatives of the return process, preventing Brave Soles from being as sustainable and ethical as we are committed to being.
