The Three Why's Behind our Upcycled Tire Soles

The Three Why's Behind our Upcycled Tire Soles

In Brave Soles, we want to create ways for your choices to matter.

We love beauty. And the only true beauty that exists in our world is the kind of beauty that provides dignity to others and honours the world we all share.

We can’t stop the world from needlessly consuming things overnight. But you and I can make changes that help it right now.

For us, one of those places is with the possibilities in recycled tires.

Kaitlin Tinis: Dance Teacher, Sales Guru and Lover of the White Gladiadoras

Kaitlin Tinis: Dance Teacher, Sales Guru and Lover of the White Gladiadoras

Kaitlin Tinis

On her first humanitarian trip to the Dominican Republic, Kaitlin Tinis fell in love with the people and culture.

She also fell in love with Jensy, a barista and baseball fanatic. In fact, their first date was over ice cream.

He had her at ice cream :)

Curiosity brought her to D.R. the first time, but love compelled her to return and start her life.

Kaitlin grew up loving everything about dancing. Originally from Brooks, Alberta, she has been a professional dancer and teacher for many years. She loves to teach and work with kids.

However, she also loves to teach people about the secrets of Brave Soles.

As our team lead for our sales and promotions in Dominican Republic, she is tenacious and passionate about the story behind Brave Soles.

We recently asked her about why she is here and what keeps her going. Here is what she had to say...

What brought you to Brave Soles?

My love for not only the shoes but the story behind them! I wanted to be part of this inspirational and creative company and so I reached out to Christal!

What do you enjoy about your job?

I enjoy working in the office with my two blondies (Christal & Flo) and all the laughs we share, but also connecting with people and sharing our story with them.
Finding them a pair of shoes they can tell their own story with is really fulfilling.

What's important to you in life?

The most important things to me in my life are my family, my friends and animals. I will always put the people I care about before anything else!

What's your current fave Brave Soles shoes?

That would be my Gladiadoras!!! Love them!

What do you feel is important for people to know about Brave Soles?

I feel it's really important for people to know our story - where the idea started, why recycling makes a difference and how Brave Soles was created.
I am also proud of how we are employing people here in the Dominican Republic, working with them to create better lives and futures together.
Thanks, Kaitlin, we think so, too :)

Florence and Ljana

Florence and Ljana

Florence and Ljana have a unique family story. Florence moved to Dominican Republic when she was 19. She fell in love with Ljana's dad, Tommy, a French Canadian raised in Dominican Republic.

The catch? Florence grew up in the middle of Montreal, Quebec and fell in love with a horse rancher from the outback of Dominican Republic. It's pretty safe to say she has had to make a few adjustments!

But love is powerful - and Ljana was the icing on the cake for her :)

Florence is the "Logistics Mastermind" for Brave Soles. She loves her little family, fashion, computer coding, afternoon drinks with friends on the beach, and rocking Brave Soles whenever she can.

Ljana is growing up speaking Spanish and French. She is into horseback riding with her Dad, she is a fashionista, and she loves dressing like her step mom. She also loves ice cream, the colour pink and kittens.

Florence and Ljana were in Puerto Plata when they took this shot. However, even though they have fabulous Metallica shirts on, neither of them have ever experienced a live Metallica concert together :)

Meet Andie Downes, One of Our Inspiring #SoulsInBraveSoles

Meet Andie Downes, One of Our Inspiring #SoulsInBraveSoles

Andie Downes #soulsinbravesoles

Meet Andie Downes. She is 14 and going into Grade 9 in Regina, Saskatchewan. Andie is a competitive Irish dancer, has a dog named Papito and has a family that's always there for her. She also struggles daily to overcome anxiety, OCD and the hidden effects of stress.

In her own words, Andie is proud of getting honour role in school and getting all "A"s on her report card this past school year. When she grows up, Andie would like to be a journalist or scientist, but she hasn't yet decided.

However, she does know one thing: Andie wants to help kids who struggle with OCD. She wants them to know that they are not alone:

"I don't want any kids to go through what I had to endure with OCD."

Research has shown that fewer than 10% of people with OCD seek treatment and help. Lives such as Andie's show us how important it is to be brave enough to speak out and speak up.

Andie says that her Mom, Cheryl, is like her best friend. Her mom says that Andie is learning to be brave every day in managing her OCD and anxiety.

Cheryl also says that Andie's Brave Soles are a reminder to be brave everywhere she goes :)

Our mission in Brave Soles is to always remember that we are all connected. From our choices in consumption to our choices about who we want to be, we can all be brave.

Andie is walking proof of this. Her story reminds us that she is truly an elite member of our #soulsinbravesoles tribe :)
